Entry 6
Plant-neurobiologists know well that there are no neurons involved in plant biology.
You do not adopt the their neurology when you eat them.
They do not feel pain and their being “rooted” is an evolutionary signal of this
Pain would not be adaptive for a creature that can’t run away
Movement within the scope of consciousness; there are different levels of it and movement is one of them
“A plant cannot move away, for that reason it would be very cruel of nature if they could feel pain.”
“They cannot move away, animals can”
That does not undermine their intelligence. That does not undermine that they communicate with us. In fact, they might be communicating with us in ways we don’t realise, the freshness of an orchard, or ripe fruit, they want us to eat. ‘
We would know if the smell of freshly moan grass was the chemical constituent of screams, yet we ignore screams that we know are a result of pain.
We have pain so that we can remove our hand quickly from the fire or escape the source of pain.
Plants make fruits and seeds that are meant to be taken, and eaten, by mammals and birds, that is their gift. The eating part is essential, removing the fruit from the seed, which would rot if not eaten, in order for the cycle of germination and fruitation to repeat. This is a life affirming practice.
Their purpose is fulfilled when a ripe fruit is taken from the tree or from the ground when it has dropped. The plant releases it.
(it is not only illogical but colonial to apply this understanding of fulfilment and purpose to enslaved animals or any animal who's life is interfered with by your decision to abuse or end their existence. Their gift of life is not yours to take, not like the fruit, but people do it anyway, not out of need, out of want, out of ignorance for the experience of conscious expression around them)
Grasses benifit from being grazed. You question what would happen to cows and livestock if they weren’t slaughtered for food? They would go back to tending the gardens and assuring it’s vitality. They are stewards of the land they come from, and will steward lands that are not theirs if they must. This is a life-affirming practice. The grass, the soil, the land, they need these animals that we humans have enslaved. We are actively corrupting the ecosystem and have not enough care to change our ways.
Shamans were taught their practices by plants, by ayahuasca.
The western mind with discredit this as mythology and story telling, and the only thing wring here is their discrediting. Plants tell their stories. They are also the closest thing we have to the Sun. One might credit them for their innate holiness, but it won’t be the west.
Plants are a true epistemology. They are a source of knowledge. And you don’t carry the signature of their emotive feelings, but they may express their knowledge with emotive intent.
In shamanic traditions, they communicate with plants.
Alike veganism, I see the world through cosmism. They are lenses that share the same glasses.
